The
Governors Academy for
Technology in Teaching and Learning is a year-long
professional development opportunity for South Dakota K-12
educators. The Academy experience commences with a month long summer
seminar and continues with complementary school year follow up
activities. During the summer academy, participants enhance
their technology skills in the context of collaborative study
groups. The primary focus of the summer Academy is the design of
technology-rich units of study that are to be implemented during the
school term following academy participation. Follow-up experiences
focus on participant’s daily practice, professional growth, and
technology-driven reform in teaching and learning practices.
TTL Professional Academy Purpose
The Professional TTL Academy continues to develop
technology-capable South Dakota educators. TTL provides
participating teachers with the knowledge, competencies and
understandings to apply technology-enhanced instructional
strategies to support the learning needs of students.
TTL Professional Academy Participant will have
opportunities to:
- Examine current research to evaluate instructional
design and make informed decisions regarding the use of
technology in support of student learning.
- Design technology-rich units of study that support
the diverse needs of learners.
- Increase competency in the use of select digital
technologies that support classroom instruction and
enhance professional practice.
- Reflect on daily practice, professional growth, and
technology-driven reform in teaching and learning.

TTL Networking Academy
The Governor’s TTL Academy for
Network Administrators is an intensive training program for
individuals who have responsibility for management and/or
maintenance of a school district’s network(s). Two levels of
academy are offered. In Basic Network Administration,
participants learn the basics of networking and gain skills
necessary to setup, configure, maintain, and administer a
Windows NT server. Basic TTL NA is a month-long academy.

insure that South Dakota school districts
have trained personnel who possess the
expertise necessary to properly manage and
maintain their computer networks to support
and facilitate educational utilization. |

TTL
Paraprofessional Academy
The Paraprofessional TTL Academy is in response
to and in support of the Every Teacher/Teacher Quality Grant
received by DECA and the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) legislation
regarding paraprofessionals. The two week TTL 2003 for
Para-Professionals academy will provide a technology-rich
professional growth opportunity for non-certified K-12 educators.
This TTL Academy component will establish a knowledgeable
educational community that supports effective teaching and learning
in technology-rich classrooms.
TTL Paraprofessional Academy Purpose:
The purpose of this academy is to cover
the fundamental concepts of computer
and telecommunication uses in education. Extensive hands-on
technology training will enhance the abilities of participants to
support classroom instruction.
- Core Curriculum - Instructional Support/Practice:
- Working knowledge of the five propositions of
National Board of Professional Teaching Standards
- Collaborative practice and professional growth
- Working knowledge of the implications of
NCLB legislation relative to South Dakota
- Core Curriculum – Integration of Technology:
- Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Internet research, resources, and site evaluation
- Software evaluation and use
- Use of graphic organizers (Inspiration)

- Use of telecommunication infrastructure (DDN, WebCT,
state email, listservs)
